WHAT IS "EFFECTIVE TEACHING"?

Some definitions:

  • We define effective teaching as that which leads to improved student achievement using outcomes that matter to their future success. Defining effective teaching is not easy. The research keeps coming back to this critical point: student progress is the yardstick by which teacher quality should be assessed. Ultimately, for a judgement about whether teaching is effective, to be seen as trustworthy, it must be checked against the progress being made by students (Coe, Aloisi, Higgins & Major, 2014).


  • Effective Teaching is systematic, caring and stimulating. Effective Teaching is concerned not only with success but also with appropiate values. Effective teaching is best estimated in relation to your goals, there are some features of teaching on which there is both a consensus among lecturers and evidence from studies of student learning. (Atkins, Brown, & Brown, 2002).


  • The effective teaching it is one that comprise the development and the practice of the higher thinking skills, which should serve to applied within particular contexts.  For the effective teaching, the people should change the criteria of traditional teaching, because the education must generate active and meaningful learning . So, the notion of effective teaching it focuses on developing critical thinking of students, also, promotes the conception that teaching should continually responds to the contexts in which learning is undertaken. (Devlin & Samarawickrema, 2010).
